Lesson 3: Deity and Life

In this lesson we learned about Deity, and how to choose one with which you can relate, or what to do if one chooses you instead of the other way around. For those who are unsure what Deity is, Deity is the belief that there is a higher power over all of us.The Higher Being that you choose to follow is known as your Patron Deity. By choosing this Patron Deity, you become more connected on a personal and spiritual level. Depending on who you worship, you become a devotee of that God or Goddess, this means you are devoted to serve and worship them. Keep in mind however, all Deities/Gods/Goddess are just facets of a larger central power. These “facets” are how we choose to visualize that central power in a way we can understand and interact with ease.

The next part of our journey takes us back...back to the very beginning of everything. Other types of Faith call this the “Creation Story”, Pagans refer to it by another name - "The Vangelo Della Streghe”. This is a collection of many stories passed down from generation to generation by the Aradian Witches of Italy. These legends describe how the physical world was created and how spirits descended into matter. I recommend that any beginner read this creation story, to better understand how we came into existence.

While we learn about Deity and how we came into existence, we also explore the different parts of our spirit. We will first talk about our “Lower self,” this part of us is made up of three parts,

  • Our Physical body ( First Dimension )
  • Our Emotions ( Second Dimension )
  • Our Thinking Mind ( Third Dimension )

These three parts are what we are without our five senses. When I say “Lower self” this refers to how our energy reacts with the energy in the world around us. We all should know how each of the three dimensions work and understand how to use them.

Above this part of our spirit is “higher self.” Just like our lower self, the "Higher self" has three parts. Those three parts are as follows:

  • Astral Self (Casual Self)
  • Egoic self (soul)
  • Monad (divine spark)

Astral self is the part of us that chooses what experiences we have in our physical life. This is how we learn our life lessons. Examples of life lessons could be, death, births, and other life changing experiences. This is the level we shift to when we work on magickal workings.

Egoic self is the level of our spirit that combines all our experiences from many lifetimes. All lessons learned, and knowledge of our other lives are stored there. In a sense, our soul is like a file cabinet or record book. Giving us access to this information as we grow on our journey.

Monad is the part of the soul that is considered perfect on its own. This is the part of god/dess that is within each of us. It is the spark that calls to us, this is what helps us connect with deity. We continue to grow until we are one once more connected with the God/dess, becoming one with the universe.

Your higher self dictates which way your journey will take you.

One thing I have learned, you may not hear the call of the God/dess in the beginning. If you do not have a Patron Deity at the moment, find one whose qualities you would like to have within you. How and who you choose to worship is up to you. There are some who have chosen a God/dess, only to switch to another later on in their journey. How you discover this part of your journey can only be goverened by you and Deity. I have been practicing working with different deities over the span of 2 years. I honored each deity by worshipping each for 30 days. During one of the routine rituals with my group https://www.facebook.com/groups/GoddessConnection/ I found my Patron deity Yemaya. She appeared to me in a dream. We had been working with her for a week when this happened. In my dream she was standing next to me in the ocean and she presented me with a Conch shell and kissed my third eye. To many this may seem silly, but it had a powerful effect on my emotions. I woke up crying and shaking, but then a peacefulness washed over me. Since this experience I have continued to honor her.
